A few weeks ago in Organic Insider, I mentioned how the USDA was soliciting input from the general public for its new GMO-labeling law, which goes into effect in 2018.
The reason for my not addressing it until now was that I had been waiting to see the official response from Michael Hansen, Ph.D., Senior Scientist at Consumers Union and arguably the preeminent expert in our industry when it comes to GMOs, genetics and all things labeling.
Michael and Consumers Union did not release their official comments until Friday afternoon, and he and I have been discussing these comments over the weekend.
Normally, Organic Insider goes out on Tuesdays but since the USDA asked that the comments be submitted by tomorrow, I wanted to get you my synopsis of these comments as soon as possible, so you can make the deadline. According to Michael Hansen, however, this is not a formal comment, and the deadline isn’t strict.
If you can get your comments in by tomorrow, that is best. If not, you should submit them as soon as you can.
So, just a heads-up that Organic Insider will be coming tomorrow morning, instead of Tuesday, and it is time-sensitive.
